Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) has embarked on a bold $6.8 billion waterfront expansion, set to redefine luxury and lifestyle in Singapore by 2030. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on November 14, 2024, marked the beginning of a development that promises to elevate RWS as a premier global lifestyle destination.
Exciting Additions to RWS
The expansion will introduce:
- A waterfront promenade, offering scenic views and vibrant spaces.
- A four-story retail, dining, and entertainment podium spanning 228,658 sq ft.
- Two new luxury hotels, adding 700 rooms to the resort’s existing six hotels.
“These developments represent our commitment to shaping RWS into a global must-visit destination,” said Tan Hee Teck, CEO of RWS. “The iconic design and offerings will redefine Singapore’s tourism landscape.”
Strengthening Singapore’s Tourism Appeal
Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Alvin Tan, highlighted the project’s potential to solidify Singapore’s position as a leading events and leisure destination. “This expansion will create economic benefits, new jobs, and opportunities for local businesses, further enhancing our vibrant tourism sector,” he remarked.
A Competitive Edge in the Integrated Resort Scene
RWS faces increasing competition, particularly from Marina Bay Sands (MBS), which has announced its own $8 billion expansion. Scheduled to begin in mid-2025, the MBS project will add a fourth tower, 570 hotel rooms, and a 15,000-seat entertainment arena. Despite these challenges, RWS’s waterfront development aims to carve a distinctive niche by blending iconic design, luxurious experiences, and innovative amenities.
Transforming Sentosa and Singapore Tourism
Targeted for completion by 2030, the waterfront lifestyle project will enhance Sentosa’s reputation as an iconic destination for international and local visitors. Its visionary approach to luxury, combined with its bold architecture, underscores RWS’s commitment to positioning Singapore at the forefront of global tourism.
As Resorts World Sentosa advances its ambitious expansion, it sets the stage for an exciting new chapter in Singapore’s tourism and lifestyle offerings.
